Tamara is our favorite girl next door, literally, she lives minutes from the studio! She has over 9 years of experience in the movement industry paired with a lifetime of dancing as a pastime. Raised in Pineville, Louisiana, Tam moved to DFWTX in 2015 after graduating college. Tamara received her bachelor’s degree in Theatre from Northwestern State University Louisiana; as well as a degree and (Louisiana) license in cosmetology since 2013. Tam is currently enrolled in the Century Pilates Instructor Program under the mentorship of Emily Urbanosky Wills. She is also holds a certification in the globally recognized Vbarre method, under the guidance of Veronica Combs, creator, and master instructor Stormi Truesdell, which blends the body sculpting power of ballet with the resistance strength training of Pilates; most recent certifications include and Pole Fitness and ELDOA 1 & 2.
How did Tamara find Pilates? While enrolled at NSULA, Tam took a semester of Pilates Mat under the guidance of Kirstin Riehl, Professor and now Director of Dance. Since that time, she yearned to find a fully equipped Pilates studio to begin honing her craft. Tam discovered a barre class in 2018, one year postpartum, and enjoyed it alongside aerial and pole fitness as a total body conditioning system. Then she discovered Century Pilates in November 2021, where she immediately embraced the modality and pursued the ongoing education and certifications being offered. Tamara has always believed a balanced fitness regimen would help her achieve uniform strength and alignment.
Tam says she loves Pilates because of the mind, body, spirit connection, and she believes ELDOA is a magnificent complement to that. The posture-improving benefits corrected and strengthened her body after two babies, while the musically upbeat vibe of Vbarre has always encouraged movement! She admits, like many of us, that it can be hard to stay motivated and practice regularly, but finding these methodologies make it more fun to focus on strength training, stamina, connection, and cardio. Everybody truly benefits from these methodologies and it has been amazing to witness the progress in clients’ journeys.
When not at the studio, Tamara manages a household of introverts with her loving husband Barry, together they care for their two young children and pets. After 5 years at home, Tam began pursuing her career in movement education along with Clean Beauty Advocacy with Beautycounter. Little known facts about Tam include her interest in sustainable living with a love for herbs, flowers, and aromatherapy; dabbling in mixed-media arts & crafts; and fine-tuning her skills in Pole and Aerial fitness. When not cuddling cats and birdwatching, she is likely playing with her family in their garden.
Tamara has a presence that brightens any room. She has a gentle assertiveness about her that garners trust and an effortless feeling of kinship. For Tam, it’s important that her students find confidence, awareness, and appreciation for their body. She hopes that from each class, participants gain an inner narrative of positive affirmations on what their body is capable of achieving.
